Les critiques féministes de la science: une menace aux femmes et à la science? Analyse de deux réactions du milieu mathématique

Abstract

The author of this article analyzes two texts from the mathematics field in the United States whose authors, Mary Beth Ruskai and Allyn Jackson, reproach feminist critiques of science for giving a false representation of science and mathematics, for encouraging a negative attitude toward these disciplines, and for hindering the advancement of women in these fields. A comparison of these texts with the contested works allows us to conclude that the judgments are excessively severe and not always fully justified. The controversy is partially explained by a series of misunderstandings due to a confusion in the definition of the concepts in question and differences in the presuppositions of thetwo types of discourse.
