Gender and Restructuring: The Experiences of Unionized Women Production Workers with Work Reorganization

The experiences of unionized women in an electronics manufacturing plant with work reorganization and managerial participation programs are explored in this paper. The intersection of gender and class dynamics in the women's responses to participation is discussed with a focus on democracy and empowerment, mental/manual work, and working collectively. The contradictions between the discourse of participation and the experience of lean production are examined.Metrics
