Revolution and Resurgence: Celebrating Feminist Publishing

Co-edited by Michelle Meagher and Jana Smith Elford

Deadline for full papers: May 15, 2026

In November 2025, Mount St Vincent University hosted “Revolution and Resurgence: Celebrating Feminist Publishing,” an event that marked the 50th anniversary of the publication of Atlantis: Critical Studies in Gender, Culture, and Social Justice. At the event, 140 scholars, artists, editors, writers, teachers, students, activists, and administrators gathered over a two-day period to discuss feminist publishing.

The conference invited bold feminist perspectives on the past, present, and future of publishing and welcomed critical assessments of the practices and processes that inform feminist publishing. Participants took up our provocation to define publishing in broad terms. Presentations included discussions of print and digital texts, as well as audio, video, and multimedia publishing. Participants explored literary, scholarly, creative, digital, experimental, and activist forms of feminist communication. We thought together about writing, performing, making art, making zines and chapbooks, and producing feminist cultural objects and artifacts of all kinds. We considered feminist pedagogies and mentorship, feminist community building in and outside the academy, and feminist praxis in publishing, editing, and sustaining feminist voices.

We now invite submissions to a special issue of Atlantis that will be published in Winter 2027 and edited by two of the conference co-organizers.

We welcome submissions for conventional academic research papers (long papers up to 7000 words, shorter papers, commentaries, or interviews up to 3000 words) as well as contributions that take more creative approaches to topics addressed at the Revolution and Resurgence Conference. If you are considering experimental, visual, or multimedia formats, please contact the issue editors before submitting your work: , Michelle Meagher (michelle.meagher@ualberta.ca) and Jana Smith Elford (jsmithelford@mhc.ab.ca).

**Contributions from conference participants will be prioritized, but all researchers interested in the conference themes are welcomed to submit.**

Full papers should be submitted via the Atlantis submission portal by May 15, 2026. Please include a note to indicate that your submission is for the "Revolution and Resurgence" issue. All submissions will undergo peer review. We anticipate receipt of final revised drafts in December 2026.
