Claire Martin et Marie-Claire Blais: Vers la parole et la libération

Abstract

In this study we trace the evolution of the main protagonists, Claire and Pauline, in the two volume autobiography by Claire Martin, In an I ton Glove (Dans un gant defer), and in the three volume semi-autobiography by Marie-Claire Blais The Manuscripts of Pauline Archange (Les manuscrits de Pauline Archange). Both works present us with the accounts i n the first person of a young girl growing up (Bildungsroman), and both trace the itinerary from oppression to communication and liberation. In this article we examine the various stages of this itinerary.
